Starting today we’re slowly rolling out a new Flutter update with some key quality of life improvements!
Flutter: Butterfly Sanctuary first launched in 2013, and since then we’ve come so far! We’ve been hard at work over the last couple of years to make changes to our flagship title based on player feedback and all of our learnings since launch. In this new update, you’ll see some changes like a new social point feature, an updated take on the ability system, expansions to the map, and so much more! Alongside these changes, we’ve also updated the game's technology so that it can continue to carry on long into the future. 💚
For a full list of changes, please see the list below.
This update will be rolled out in stages to make sure it goes smoothly. This means that not everyone will get it at once. If you haven’t gotten it yet, it will be coming your way soon!
Below is a list of changes in the latest Flutter update:
Social points system:
We have added a new social points system! This is similar to the one you can find in Flutter: Starlight. The butterflies in the Amigo social set will now unlock one at a time depending on the player’s social level.
NOTE: Existing players will receive social points based on the total number of gifts they’ve sent in the past. Also, if you’ve previously unlocked any species in the Amigo set, even if you’re below the new required social levels, these species will remain unlocked.
Abilities have shifted from butterflies to decorations:
All butterfly abilities have been transferred to decorations. Some cosmetic abilities have also been removed and replaced with other abilities.
Existing players will be credited a decoration per ability butterfly they own to account for this change. For example, if you have 4 butterflies with the ‘Hurry a Caterpillar’ ability, you will be credited 4 decorations with the same ability.
See below for the full list of abilities that have been removed and replaced with others:
Speedy Butterfly → Sparkle Aura
Shrink → Glitter Aura
Enlarge → Small Trail
Froggie Boogie → Beauty Aura
Draw a Heart → Expanding Trail
Draw a Butterfly → Metallic Aura
Freedom Firework → Rainbow Trail
Chinese New Year Firework → Small Trail
Easter Trail → Big Trail
Europa Trail → Shamrock Trail
Tomato Fight → Wispy Aura
Civitas Trail → Firework Blast
Draw a Clover → Sparkle Aura
Cinco De Mayo Confetti → Stripe Trail
Bee Fly Love→ Colourful Trail
Violetta Form → Triple Honeydew
Spread the Love → Firework Blast
Tender Stirring → Forest Shake
Why?
Flutter: Starlight, built on our initial learnings from Flutter: Butterfly Sanctuary, has always had decorations with abilities instead of species! With our own findings from Starlight and previously received feedback, we have found that this is a better system. This change makes it easier to use abilities (as the decorations are stationary, as opposed to flying butterflies), and it allows for more species diversity in the forest.
Facebook Login:
Facebook login is no longer supported. If you’ve been using a Facebook login, you’ll be prompted to connect with another one of our login types when you update your game!
NOTE: As a general reminder, we highly recommend writing down your Game ID and keeping it somewhere safe - this will help us restore your game if you continue with a guest game or experience any issues in the future! You can find this in your game settings.
Butterfly Attraction Changes:
Attracting is now different for a few sets!
- The Saltar, Amigo, and Paradise sets are considered "special" sets as they have different attraction rules to standard butterfly sets.
- Rarity and size flowers are no longer needed for special sets. When you place down a flower from a special set, it will take up all three flower slots on the incubator. For example, if you place down an Amigo flower, all three flower slots on the incubator will display as full, and you will attract a butterfly from the Amigo set at random.
- Special set attractions still prioritize the rarity of a butterfly. This means that there's a higher chance of getting the common species in the set, and it will still be a higher chance until you have the required number of the species to perfect them. At that point, Once you have the common species, other rarities will be prioritised, in order of rarity.
- The game will try its best to prioritise completing a special set. Special flowers will prioritise giving you species that you don't have within a special set, provided they are unlocked.
Updated core sets:
The Leafwing, Shamrock, Perisama, and Tsubasa event sets have been added to the core set collection. They are unlocked at a score of 6250, 7250, 8500, and 10,000 respectively.
Map expansion and forest capacity changes:
28 new map rooms have been added to the top of the map. Purchasable ‘Extra population’ has been removed from the store and the forest. Existing players with purchased population will be credited unlocks of the new rooms.
Carpenter Bee:
We’ve added a new purchasable creature to the forest. The Carpenter Bee is a little critter who can TRIPLE the amount of pollen created from a flower in a single shift. This ability is ready every 12 hours. The Carpenter Bee can be purchased from the store at any time and will also stay in your forest forever!
Doug the Glowbug:
Doug the Glowbug can now be rented for 30 days, and will give you 10 Flutterbucks daily while he’s in your forest. He can be rented again after the 30 days are up! All players will be receiving a free, 3-day trial of Doug with his new changes.
NOTE: Players with existing Dougs in their forest will be given this new Doug, and be paid out any Flutterbuck yield difference between the two.
Visiting Butterflies:
Visiting Butterflies have been removed in the update, as they conflict with how the game prioritises event sets and the progression of the game. We’ve also had issues with duplicates with Visiting Butterflies and Garden Events!
More linear progression during garden events:
Mini event rewards will now become a bit more linear. Rather than randomly picking from the entire pool of a player's yet-to-unlock butterflies. Rewards will now be picked from sets close together within the Flutterpedia - progressing from the earliest event set, to the latest.
Amazon Devices:
Amazon devices are no longer able to be supported due to system requirements. Existing Amazon players can continue to play the version of the game they are currently on, but will no longer be receiving updates for the game.
We’re incredibly sorry for this, but we can transfer your data to an iOS or Android device if you choose to! Please get in contact with our support team by emailing at support@runaway.zendesk.com for further assistance for this.
